I am still praying about this. But day by day, I am beginning to see something.

Have I been just blind? Is this* where I am actually being called?

It might just be this all along. People have been telling me, “why are you going to medical school when you can do [this]?” I used to take it as an offense because I did have my eyes set on becoming a doctor.

But it might be this. It just might. I still have to pray.

I have the same question as Susanna in her blog post. And I have also been arriving at the same conclusion as hers. This is something that my parents have been telling me before as well - there is a reason why we are in places flowing with milk and honey. It is not for us to hoard them for ourselves but to gather them and bless others with our harvest, thanking God for the favor. It is great that we are ready to forgo such wealth if we are called to do so, but if we are being placed in a position to receive these riches, why refuse? Do we know better than the Lord?

“but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.” (Proverbs 13:22b)

“He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.” (Proverbs 28:8)

I have been asking God, “how am I going to be able to provide for my sponsored kid and her family?” I am constantly hearing of people’s financial needs in my hometown, my community, and parts of the world. And I am struggling because I feel as if there’s nothing I can do. It’s a good struggle because I do learn to lift my worries to God.

But I feel as if He is saying, “I have placed you there. Now, go and take which is yours to take and then give.”

We are called to do different things. One is not more important than the other. We are, however, called to forsake the same thing - love of this world. There are missionaries who forsake the riches and the comfort of their homes to go to the ends of the earth to preach the Gospel to the lost. Then there are those who are called to be providers who need to also forsake these riches, not in a way that they would refuse to receive them entirely, but hold them so loosely that the wealth can be easily given away to whoever is in need. Both of them give glory to God.

Canaan is the inheritance of the Israelites. For us who are in first world countries, this is ours. It is not for us to gloat over, but it is a means for us to help others. Whatever is your inheritance, use it right.

Oh God, lead the way, please.

I have been noticing this for days. The gel inside the pot that keeps the plant well-watered (as it absorbs water) was starting to dry up. This may be so, yet I kept ignoring this fact and continued on with my tasks. However, I could not help but stare at it because, well, my laptop is usually right beside it most of the time. I was wondering why no one else ever bothered to check on this poor little thirsty plant.

So today, I did what others did not bother to do, I watered it.

This is a common thing in life, I suppose. We become aware of the important issues in the community and the rest of the world - homelessness, poverty, increasing number of orphans, unemployment, malnutrition, etc. - yet we do not raise even an inch of our little finger, we do not act, because we think to ourselves that someone else will do it. Someone else will have this much care that he will actually make a move and stand up for the oppressed and the needy.

But what if no one else did?

You may say, “But this task is so huge, I cannot possibly do such a thing!” Let me ask you something, was I the one in charge of making the plant grow? No, I was only the one to water it. Very simple, yet it helps the plant grow taller. Ultimately, it is God who will be working through you; you are only a mere vessel. Even the water did not come from me, I only got it from a source.

Maybe God is pressing a deep desire in your heart right now to do something to meet the needs of the least of your brethren. It can be something simple, it can be something drastic. It will not stop bothering you like a nagging person if you do not do what you are being asked to do. Do not wait for somebody else to do the work for you, because as it may turn out, this task is specifically for you.

Obey the Father’s calling and water your own plant right now. Literally or figuratively.
